Canyon Hills Road at Whispering Willow Drive in Lake Elsinore is shut down due to a two-vehicle crash that occurred around 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

According to Cal Fire Captain Jeff Roberts, two crash victims, a male and a female, were transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with moderate injuries. Roberts said the crash, which occurred near the residential community of Creekside, was a side collision that required the victims to be extricated from the wreckage.

Both vehicles were four-door sedans.

A water release valve was struck during the crash and Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District is on scene.

Canyon Hills Road is closed to southbound traffic until approximately 10 p.m., Roberts said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. --Daniel Lane contributed to this report.
