Crash Kills 2 And Injures 5 Others Near Lake Elsinore

The crash on SR 74 was reported at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

A crash on the outskirts of Lake Elsinore Friday night has claimed two lives.

The two-vehicle wreck on State Route 74, east of the 15 Freeway -- between Theda Street and Mountain Avenue -- was reported at 6:45 p.m.

A total of seven people were killed or injured in the crash, including two who were pronounced dead at the scene; two people suffered major injuries, one suffered moderate and two suffered minor, according to a report from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

Survivors were transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance, Hendrickson reported.

The identities of the victims has not been released at press time.

Unconfirmed reports indicated the crash involved a black Chevy Suburban that rolled and a white SUV.

As is standard protocol, the cause of the crash is under investigation.
