Shawn Wooten Named Lake Elsinore Storm Manager

Wooten joined the Padres organization in 2009 and spent last season as the manager of the low-A Fort Wayne TinCaps.

Former Major Leaguer Shawn Wooten will be the manager for the Lake Elsinore Storm when they begin their title defense on April 5, 2012. who was recently named the Padres hitting coach, but the rest of the coaching staff returns from the 2011 California League Championship team.

Shawn Wooten, who played for the Storm in 1998, spent six years in the big leagues, mainly with the Angels. A California native, Wooten won a World Series ring in 2002 with the Angels when he hit .474 during the championship run. For his career, Wooten hit .272 with 18 home runs and 86 RBI. Wooten joined the Padres organization in 2009 and spent last season as the manager of the low-A Fort Wayne TinCaps.

David Newhan returns as the hitting coach for the Storm, a position he took over mid-season last year after Phil Plantier became the manager. Newhan, also a California native, spent eight years in the big leagues and is the son of legendary Southern California sports columnist Ross Newhan. Over his eight year Major League career, David hit .253 with 23 home runs and 120 RBI. He started as a coach in the Padres organization last season with the Storm.

Another returning member of the 2011 championship team is Pitching Coach Bronswell Patrick. Bronswell will begin his fifth season in the organization as a pitching coach and his second with the Storm. Patrick spent two seasons in the Major Leagues with the Brewers and Giants and had a career record of 5-1 with one save.

Athletic Trainer Will Sinon returns for his sixth season in Lake Elsinore and his 15th in the Padres organization. Will has worked across all levels in the organization and has been named athletic trainer of the year in multiple leagues, including the Cal League in 2008.  –Storm Baseball
