Today In Lake Elsinore And Wildomar, Aug. 1, 2013: Back-to-School Deals, Companies Hiring

Highlights of events happening today in Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.

1. Looking for back-to-school deals? Lake Elsinore Unified School District students start classes Aug. 14. Here are some local retailers offering back-to-school bargains now: Walmart is offering sales on most all school supplies. Here's a link to Walmart's school supplies page, divided by gradeTarget is offering deep discounts on school uniforms -- $5 polos and $12 pants. Check Target's back to school page for other clothing deals. Check Target's coupons before shopping. Big Lots is selling backpacks for $9-$12 and Paper-Mate pens and pencils for $1-$3 per pack. Here are the Big Lots sales on school supplies. Sears is offering 50 percent off  on a lot of kids' clothing, from girls' and boys' tops to jeans and pants. There also is a 50 percent off discount on school uniforms. A one-cent sale on some school supplies is being offered at Staples when customers purchase at least $5 in other items. Check the store flyers, but school glue and some folders are a penny a piece this week. Staples also lists school supplies by price.

2. Need a job? Old Market Grill is a Mediterranean restaurant scheduled to open Aug. 7 in Wildomar and they are hiring this week! Click here for details.

3. Amazon is also on a major hiring initiative looking to fill 5,000 positions, many of them in Southern California.

4. Live fire training exercises continue today at Camp Pendleton. The explosions are often heard in Southwest Riverside County, so expect thunder today.

5. Indio City Councilman Glenn Miller will be at Lone Star Steakhouse, 18601 Dexter Ave. in Lake Elsinore today, from 4-6 p.m., for his first campaign “meet and greet” in Southwest Riverside County. He has announced his bid for the 28th Senate District in 2014. Due to redistricting, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar will fall into the 28th following the 2014 election. The cities are currently represented by Sen. Joel Anderson in the 36th District. Other candidates who’ve announced they will make a run for 28th seat include Riverside County 3rd District Supervisor Jeff Stone and former State Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia.
