Jeffries decided to form a county-affiliated advisory council representing the community. Jeffries recently received approval from his colleagues to form the five-member Lakeland Village council and his office has been accepting applications for the posts.

While such advisory councils proliferate throughout unincorporated sections of Riverside County, there remain a few enclaves, particularly in rural areas, that have remained unrepresented at the county level.

“My concern is it’s still an unincorporated community,” he said. “It needs to have a voice on the direction the community is going to go in. I didn’t want it to be just coming from the top down. I want the residents who live there to speak on behalf of their community.”

Once formed, the advisory council will conduct quarterly meetings open to the public, discuss issues and make recommendations to Jeffries. He in turn can seek support from his colleagues on the Board of Supervisors for policies and projects geared toward the community.
