Attention Teen Drivers and Parents: Start Smart in the New Year

CHP will offer a driver safety course in Temecula for new or future teen drivers.

Are you a parent of a teen driver or one who will be getting behind the wheel this year?

California Highway Patrol Temecula Area is coming to the rescue by once again hosting its driver safety program called Start Smart.

Designed for teens ages 15 to 19 and their parents or guardians, new and future licensed teens will learn how to drive safely, avoid collisions, use their seat belts properly and more. Parent responsibilities will also be discussed.

There is a choice of two classes offered in January: 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 or 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Classes will be held at the regional CHP office at 27685 Commerce Center Dr. in Temecula.

The free class is two hours long; registration is required.

For any questions or to register, contact Temecula Area CHP at 951-506-2000.

Great idea. Is there a class for the rest of us who've been driving a while and forgotten how to be safe? Or think we own the particular stretch of road our car happens to be on, however briefly? How about a class to reduce the amount of driver bullying? And one to teach a little consideration - such as making sure your headlights are correctly adjusted and teach an automatic response such as ensuring your lights are dipped when approaching oncoming traffic or when behind another vehicle at night? How about also persuading law enforcement to teach by example as well?

Speaking of the rest of us, How about a class in the dangers of Tailgating ? or not coming to a full stop at all Red lights ? My favorite ( I only saw it happen 1 time) was a car passing .another car on the inside while it was turning LEFT. Un believable There ought to be a law..
