Hurricane Sandy Grounds Flights Bound For The Northeast

The massive storm is threatening to affect travel in the area for at least two days, according to The Associated Press.

All flights to the northeast were cancelled Monday due to Hurricane Sandy, The Associated Press is reporting.

The massive storm is threatening to affect travel in the area for at least two days, according to the news agency.

“Major carriers such as American Airlines, United and Delta cancelled all flights into and out of three area airports in New York, the nation's busiest airspace. According to the flight-tracking service FlightAware, nearly 10,000 flights had been canceled for Monday and Tuesday, almost all related to the storm,” The Associated Press reported.

Disruptions are being felt around the world.

“About one-quarter of all U.S. flights travel in or out of New York airports each day. So cancellations here can dramatically impact travel in other cities,” The Association Press reported.

Forecasters say Hurricane Sandy is about 310 miles (505 kilometers) southeast of New York City, and the center of the storm is expected to be near the mid-Atlantic coast on Monday night.

“The National Hurricane Center said early Monday that the storm has top sustained winds of 85 mph (140 kph), with higher gusts. Sandy is on track to collide with a wintry storm moving in from the west and cold air streaming down from the Arctic,” according to The Associated Press.

Good luck to all the people on the East coast who are in the path of this destructive hurricane. If you have relatives in NYC, NJ or Long Island, I would urge you to ring them up & encourage them to evacuate. Unlike the other 'Sandy' I don't think that the sun will come up tomorrow.......! }~)

My daughter and her husband are in Harrington DE directly in the path of Sandy. They have power. Since they are going to get the eye of the hurricane, I told them that was the calm part of the storm.

Someone told me that hurricanes can be stopped by shooting something in the eye of the storm that breaks it up, anyone heard of this?
