A Patch reader has alerted the community that she found a female dog late Thursday morning in Lake Elsinore, and now it's hoped the pooch's owner will find her.

The lost animal (shown) was found around 11 a.m. near Machado and Lincoln. The person who found the dog has been in touch with Southwest Communities Animal Shelter/Animal Friends of the Valleys located at 33751 Mission Trail in Wildomar. The shelter can be reached at (951) 674-0618.

The Good Samaritan still has the dog at her home. You can reach her on Facebook here: Jessica Rojas.

"I brought her in so she doesn't get hurt or hit by a car," she posted.

Has the animal been taken to the AFV shelter and scanned for a micro chip?

Hi Martha - I wasn't able to today but plan on doing that tomorrow morning.

Great, while lots of people read the Patch, many others don't, and the shelter would be the first place most people would contact.

That's true. The shelter has my information as well :).

she's so cute. I hope her owners are found and if found, I hope they take steps to insure this dog never gets out and lost again. Please let us know if the owners are found. What are your plans if no one comes forward?

Good news! She was microchipped and the original owner was located! She's coming tonight to pick her up! :)

Thanks so much to The Patch for sharing this!

That was really nice of you Jessica! So nice to hear good news! You can actually take a dog to most vet offices and they will scan for a microchip(in case you are not close to AFV).

Jessica, you're awesome for keeping this dog safe and trying to find the owner.. sometimes dropping them off at the shelter isn't the best way to go about it. You did a great thing :)
Jessica Rojas January 11, 2014 at 04:08 AM
Thank you both :). I actually took her to the vet on lakeshore and they were able to contact the owner.
