My dogs started barking a split second before I heard and felt the rumble. All of the windows shook in my house, but there was no damage.

Didn't feel it. I was asleep in bed. My wife said she felt a little shake but nothing crazy. We're in LV over by the abandoned boys military academy.

Thunder I heard that noise too, but I didn't realize what it was until I read your comment. I have never heard a noise like that in the past prior to an earth quake, very eerie, it was loud!

Didn't feel a thing here in Temecula, don't know if that's good or bad? But, I did feel the quake the other day down towards Indio. I guess that would indicate where we are on the fault lines...?

heard the rumble and a small boom, then about a millisecond later a much larger boom along with jolt to my house. Wasn't sure if it was a quake or an explosion! But I am approx 2 miles from epicenter, no damage that I could see.

I felt it, too. Actually, I heard it first, then I felt it. I was sitting in front of the computer, just taking a sip of my first cup of coffee, when I heard a rumbling sound outside. At first I thought it might be a trash truck... until I realized trash day is tomorrow. Then a second or two later... WHAM! ... the house jolted. No shaking, just a jolt. And then it was over. I ran upstairs to check on my wife and she (and our puppy) were still sound asleep. Oh well... just another day in California.

I live in Menifee and it was the strangest sound i have ever heard followed by a hard hit I thought a metor enter the stomper and hit the or something ! I have live in cali al my life experienced many earthquake never heard a sound like that ! Wow at 6 am I am still thinking about it
jill smith October 10, 2012 at 07:36 AM
I agree Shannon, I have never heard a sound like that, and I have also experienced allot of earthquakes. I went on line and read a little about it and it said the massive deep vibrations cause the sound and boom. Some people described it as a train roaring through a deep tunnel and then a large crash.

I felt the whole thing it was loud with a sharp jolt. I sat in my chair for a moment waiting for the big one. When the big one didn't come I thought a car might have crashed into my house.
