Lake Elsinore Teens Ready To Give Back To Their Community

On April 23, the teens were honored by the Lake Elsinore City Council and Lake Elsinore resident John Larsen.

In March, the County of Riverside Office of Emergency Services (OES) sponsored its first Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) pilot program, which was hosted by the City of Lake Elsinore.

It was the first pilot program introduced to the Southwest Riverside County communities.

The teens learned emergency preparedness techniques and received 20 hours of community service. After the course completion, they received a certificate. Once the students graduate from high school, they will have the opportunity to become a volunteer with Lake Elsinore's Citizen Corps as a disaster service worker. The volunteers stand at the ready to help in the event of a disaster -- natural or otherwise.
