If you want to gift a pet, consider instead offering to pay for adoption when the person is ready. The recipient can choose his or her own pet, one whose breed and care requirements match personality and lifestyle.

When bringing a prospective pet into a new family, everyone should have a chance to meet and spend time with the animal before making the important decision to adopt.
