There will also be special giveaways with each adoption, and the shelter will feature family-friendly activities such as announcing the winner of the mascot-naming contest and a hot-dog-an-ice-cream lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For those who turn out on Sunday, but are not military or public safety officials, the shelter still has deals. Seniors 60 and older can also adopt mature pets without a fee, and all other adoptions will be half price ($25 minimum).
