Thunder Coming From Artillery Training

Training hours are from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, Thursday, Jan. 24 and Friday, Jan. 25, according to an advisory issued by the base.

Noise from artillery fire training at nearby Camp Pendleton may be heard this week, base officials advised.

The training, which involves firing high explosive munitions, is taking place in the Whiskey/Zulu Impact areas, just west of Southwest Riverside County.

Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.

Heard it all day and night yesterday! Yes I was up till 12:00am & it did stop then.... Thank you for investigating this, I really got scared, there were at least 4 that really shook the house. I pray our foundation holds up! Is there a map you could post of the areas that are closest to LE? I live up on Ortega in Rancho Capistrano, obviously close, would really like to know how close!

Thanks for the info. Had me concerned. From 2300 to 2400 the blasts rattled my windows in the bedroom. (Lake forest)
