Walking Tours Planned In Historic Downtown Lake Elsinore

The approximately half-mile tours through historic downtown will feature docents from the Lake Elsinore Historical Society leading the way through the city that is celebrating its 125th birthday this year.

Lots of cities and historic towns offer walking tours, so why not Lake Elsinore too?

On May 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,  the city will likely see more pedestrians than usual -- hopefully with video cameras in hand -- during the "Historic Elsinore Walk, Taste & Talk."

The approximately half-mile tours through historic downtown will feature docents from the Lake Elsinore Historical Society leading the way through the city that is celebrating its 125th birthday this year.

The tours begin at the historic , During the walks, docents will share stories about the city's history, archictecure, and famous people. Along the way, local merchants will be handing out treats and coupons, and a souvenir historic guide map as well as a goodie bag will be provided.

"The tours will each last about an hour and a half," said Ruth Atkins, president of the Lake Elsinore Historical Society.

Key stopping places will be businesses along Main Street, Lake Elsinore City Hall, the old Elsinore Theater, the Tank House, the Santa Fe Depot, Pioneer Lumber, The Wreck, and others, Atkins explained.

"The city has such a rich history," she said, adding that more walks are being planned.
