Trails of blood and screams disrupted a quiet Lake Elsinore neighborhood late Saturday as a homicide investigation unfolded.

Police were still on the scene Sunday, zeroing in on the 1100 block of Monroe Street.

Earlier, police tape and detectives were scattered throughout the neighborhood, including near Grant Drive, Eisenhower Drive, Machado Street, and Garfield Street.

Bloody trails were found in multiple locations, according to a Patch reporter on the scene.

Leonel Mena, 19, said he drove home around 11:30 p.m. and saw Monroe Street bright with police lights.

People were screaming, he said. “It’s always been a quiet neighborhood around here,” he added.

Neighbors believe there was some sort of fight between two young males, Mena said, but police have not confirmed that information.

Lt. Jim Adams, who serves out of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s station, said more details would likely be released later Sunday.

In the meantime, there is no further danger to the public, according to Deputy Myling Bordeau, a public information officer for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
