Updated June 22, 2013 at 5:24 p.m.:

A Menifee man shot by peace officers last year -- and whose name came up again when he allegedly stabbed someone in Wildomar -- surrendered Saturday, authorities said.

Riverside County sheriff's officials reported that Richard Mount Jr. turned himself in to Murrieta cops about 9:30 a.m.

He allegedly argued with an acquaintance on the shoulder of Cottonwood Canyon Road about noon Friday and reportedly stabbed the other man -- a Wildomar resident -- in the chest and left arm.

The alleged victim was expected to recover, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Marc Cloutier reported.

A man who was shot by police in December after he allegedly fired on a father and son in Wildomar is now wanted in connection with a stabbing that took place in the city Friday afternoon.

Richard Mount Jr., 54, was allegedly involved in an argument on the shoulder of Cottonwood Canyon Road with an acquaintance of his. During the argument that took place around noon Friday, Mount produced a knife and stabbed the 53-year-old Wildomar man several times in the chest and left arm, according to a report from Sgt. Marc Cloutier who is based out of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station.

Mount fled the scene.

The victim was able to call 911 and report the incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for his wounds and is expected to survive, the sergeant added.

“The public is to consider Mount armed and dangerous,” Cloutier reported.

Mount was last seen driving a blue older model pick-up, possibly a Nissan Frontier.

Anyone with information about this incident or the whereabouts of Mount are urged to call 911 or during business hours contact Investigator Cornett of the Wildomar Police Department at 951 245-3357.

Currently, Mount is out on bail for the December incident. He has been in court several times but his case has been continued.

During that December incident, Mount sustained non life-threatening wounds from police gunfire. Police were called to the scene in the 24000 block of Mercer Lane in Wildomar, after receiving reports that Mount had fired on a man and his son.

According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa McConnell, Mount lived at the Mercer Lane residence.

A woman, identified as the minor child’s mother, was at the home that night when the boy’s father drove there to drop his son off around 7 p.m., McConnell said. Unconfirmed reports indicated she may have been Mount’s live-in girlfriend.

The father and son parked in front of the residence and honked the vehicle’s horn in an attempt to get the attention of the mother, reported McConnell.

Within a short period of time both father and child stated they heard what sounded like gunshots and saw what they believed to be muzzle flashes coming from the side of the residence, the sergeant said.

"Believing they were being shot at, they immediately fled the area and contacted law enforcement,” she said.

Police were called and a perimeter was set up around the area.

With the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department helicopter, attempts were made to contact the home’s occupants via telephone and a public address system, the sergeant said.

“All attempts failed to get a response … ,” she said.

McConnell said deputies observed movement and lights turning on and off from inside the residence and more shots fired from within.

Sometime after 10 p.m., Mount came outside the home through the front door holding what police say “appeared to be an assault-style rifle.”

Believing the suspect was going to shoot at them, two deputies from the Menifee Police Department fired on the man, McConnell said.

Mount sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds from the deputies’ rounds and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment; he was later booked at Southwest Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon.

Editor’s Note: A photo of the suspect will be posted when it is provided by police.
