Calling All Aspiring Public Servants, Artists!

Spend 11 months learning about the California legislative process, or devote your summer to an esteemed visual arts program.

The office of Lake Elsinore Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries is reminding high school and college students, as well as mid-career professionals that applications are currently being accepted for two learning opportunities.

First is the Jesse Marvin Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program, which provides the opportunity for aspiring public servants of all ages, backgrounds and experience to directly participate in the legislative process. The 11-month fellowship provides an introduction to public policy formation through full-time work as professional staff in the State Assembly. Fellows also participate in a weekly academic seminar, earning graduate credit from CSU Sacramento. Fellows are paid a monthly stipend of $1,972 plus health, dental and vision benefits.

Applications for the 2012-2013 Fellowship Program are due by Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Applicants must have earned their undergraduate degree by September 2012. No specific major is required and individuals with advanced degrees and mid-career professionals are also encouraged to apply.

The second opportunity is the California State Summer School for the Arts, a rigorous, preprofessional, month-long training program in the visual and performing arts, creative writing, animation and film for talented artists of high-school age.

The school was created by the California Legislature, and held its first session in 1987. Its purpose is to provide a training ground for future artists who wish to pursue careers in the arts and entertainment industries in California.

This year’s program is scheduled July 14 to Aug. 10 at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. Applications to CSSSA are due on or before February 28, 2012, for this year’s summer program.

To learn more about CSSSA or to obtain an application form and instructions, visit CSSSA.ca.gov or call the Sacramento headquarters at 916-229-5160.
