Gas Line Rupture Delays Temescal Canyon Road Commuters

The large rupture was reported at 2:43 p.m. Monday.

Residents who use Temescal Canyon Road instead of the 15 Freeway to commute north and south may have experienced traffic delays during the ride home to Lake Elsinore Monday.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported that a natural gas line ruptured near Temescal Canyon Road and El Cerrito Road in unincorporated area near Corona.

The large rupture was reported at 2:43 p.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, traffic was diverted in the area and there were significant back ups. As of approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday, crews were still working the incident.

CHP reported earlier in the afternoon that the Temescal Canyon/El Cerrito intersection was closed. Residents in two nearby homes voluntarily evacuated, according to Cal Fire.

It’s not clear what caused the rupture, but Cal Fire reports the incident occurred in a construction zone.
