Albertsons To Cut Up To 2,500 Jobs

The company said all stores in California and Nevada will be affected; Lake Elsinore and Wildomar each have Albertsons locations.

The corporate owner of Albertsons said Wednesday that it will eliminate up to 2,500 jobs at the supermarket chain, which has stores in Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.

The company, Supervalu Inc., said the jobs will be trimmed from all 247 Albertsons stores in California and Nevada, beginning June 17.

Supervalu attributed the decision to “simplifying its organization and reducing expenses to help reinvest in” initiatives for customers.

In a statement, Dan Sanders, president of Albertsons Southern California Division, said:

“A decision of this nature is never easy, but it is the necessary step for us to take to help improve our business and accelerate our turnaround. Our goal is to more effectively serve the marketplace by scheduling associates more appropriately to serve customers at the times they shop. I am confident our team will embrace these changes and help us to compete more effectively in a rapidly changing marketplace.”

The decision follows earlier cuts four months ago that led to a reduction in staff at Albertsons' Fullerton store support center.

Last year, Albertsons and other grocery stores went to the wire Workers were prepared to strike over wage and insurance costs.

Local Albertsons stores include in Lake Elsinore and in Wildomar.

Labor Unions are an important backbone of America and they are getting weaker every year.

Brad, labor unions used to have its place back in history. They are now one of the reasons why everything is outsourced to other countries and why we are running a trade deficit. If one is a lousy worker and has a bad attitude, then you're correct, labor unions can be handy.

Unions are important. Problem is they have gone too far. Especially public employee unions. They have thrown away the concept of them serving the public. They think the public is there to feed off and satisfy their greed.

Let's just turn into China and pay everyone $2 a day. Let's give the corporate head the whole pie and watch him eat it too. Let's give up on a descent way of live. Let's work so we can put rice on the table tonight.
