According to its online profile, CUEMA is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization formed in 2010 “to enhance, develop and educate the professional executives of the California water utility industry.” The organization hosts an annual conference for water utility executives, as well as regional workshops and general continuing education “focused on enhancing the best management practices and addressing current issues affecting the utility industry.”

"CUEMA is an organization dedicated to the water industry here in California that stands for education, enrichment, and encouraging success," Vega said. In his 30 years in the water industry service, Vega worked for the Cucamonga Valley Water District as the director of operations and prior to that was general manager of the Victor Valley Water District. He also served as Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District’s director of operations for four years before joining East Valley Water District in 2011 as assistant general manager. Vega’s water industry service also includes work with the cities of Glendora, Lakewood, and Covina, according to the news release.

"John’s experience and leadership will be a great addition to the work we do at CUEMA," says Rick Gilmore, incoming CUEMA board president and general manager at Byron-Bethany Irrigation District. "John has a tremendous understanding of our industry, particularly water and wastewater operations, which will be very helpful as we serve our organization and our members.”

CUEMA will introduce the new board at its annual Leadership Summit scheduled for September 4-6 in San Diego.
