Engines might rev again at the Lake Elsinore Motocross Park.

Wildomar business owner and principal of Vision Quest Enterprises Gio Nanci said he has signed a 15-year lease on the privately owned property located on Cereal Street.

Nanci said he and other Vision Quest Enterprises partners are meeting with the City of Lake Elsinore Thursday to discuss details on what needs to be done to bring the park up to code.

He was out at the park this weekend overseeing initial work, and explained that he doesn’t race but still sees potential at the track.

“We are planning to spend about $500,000” to get the park up to standards, Nanci said.

“It’s a future investment,” he said of the park, noting that he anticipates the facility would be open to all types of racing. “I see it as something that will really take off here.

Lake Elsinore Planning Technician Agustin Resendiz confirmed that Vision Quest is meeting with the city, but said talks are informal at this initial stage.

“It’s still very early,” Resendiz said.

The track closed in mid 2010 after city officials determined that park operator Randy Hiner was out of compliance with permit conditions.

Rob James, owner of JER Motorsports located on Corydon Street next to the park, said he was interested in taking over the facility until he crunched the numbers.

“The price was too high,” James said, “but I’m glad someone is doing it. It will be good for business and the community.”

Lake Elsinore and surrounding cities are a Mecca for motocross racing. According to the American Motorcyclist Association, Riverside County is a hotbed of off-road activity and has been home and practice grounds for racing heroes like Jeremy McGrath, Mike Metzger and Ricky Johnson.
