Lake Elsinore Sizzler Closes Its Doors

The restaurant has been a mainstay in the city since 1987.

The following is an announcement from BMW Management of Temecula:

After 25 years on Casino Drive, the Lake Elsinore Sizzler is going on hiatus. The restaurant, owned by BMW Management of Temecula, closed after dinner last evening, the result of its lease expiring.

“We have truly enjoyed being part of this wonderful community and we so regret that we are closing for a while,” said Sally Myers, BMW vice president of marketing.

According to Myers, BMW is currently looking for a site to build an all-new Sizzler in the Lake Elsinore area. Meanwhile, guests are invited to visit BMW’s neighboring Sizzlers in Murrieta, a 12-minute drive south on Interstate 15, or to the Sizzler off Interstate 215 in Perris. Guests who stop by the Lake Elsinore location will be given a special coupon for a free Grilled Shrimp Skewer or Half-Pound Steak entrée when another is purchased, along with two beverages.

The restaurant opened in 1987. “We are very proud to be part of this great community,” Myers said. “We have hosted countless special events, and the restaurant has been home to the prestigious Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month Program for 17 years. We cannot wait to return with a new generation Sizzler.”

Myers added that the company has started looking at potential sites, but that a timetable for a new restaurant has yet to be established.

The restaurant employed approximately 30 associates. Myers is hoping many will transfer to the Murrieta or Perris locations. Gift cards will continue to be accepted at all Sizzlers.

Real estate is beginning to pick up. And real estate leads the economy. So jobs will come to Elsinore. It make be a few years. Before the economic collapse, Lake Elsinore was expected to be due for economic growth. My guess is it'll be back on track for that when the economy in general is a little better - providing some Sarah Palin type doesn't get elected and start a war or two with our economy once again being a casualty.

@ respect!!! I will tell you right now no one there took their job for granted and the Myers knew that I was the server for the student of the month program for the last 3 years SO WHAT !!! The least she can do is give the kids and their families a free meal once a month the employees did not even get a discount we had to pay full price to eat there , Have you seen her home? trust me the least they can do is support the students!! And guess what the day they closed I was working and none of us had a clue they would just close down and never say a word or give any notice the least we deserve is a notice a week something after working there for so many years weather they had things take a bad turn or not they should of told us that was very selfish there are ways to handle situations good or bad!!! I am not so much upset about SIZZLER closing as I am about the selfish way they handled telling us it was slap in the face so you should save your comments because you were not there and have no clue MR OR MRS RESPECT!!

NOT THE MYERS December 20, 2012 at 11:22 PM
Respect....HA! RESPECT, is letting your employees know they will no longer hava a job! Not their last day, before you close the doors, but MONTHS prior. This was not an overnight thing, I'm sure they have been talking about this behind CLOSED doors for a while. RESPECT, is to say we are sorry and take this check to help you until something new happens for you! I'm sure the MYERS will be having a great CHRISTmas, unlike their former employees! Very sad, for them to do such a thing to people who busted their butts to keep them in business that long!! All, I know is KARMA is not nice. How you treat people will come back to them 10 fold! I will NEVER go into.a sizzletrs owned by them two!! So, Mr. RESPECT....put yourself in the shoes of those who lost their jobs!! THE END!!

Thank you I can not believe that comment!!!!! No notice not even an hour notice I literally went into work and left thinking i was going to return to work again then i got that dreaded phone call two hours after I was home from work that is disrespectful and selfish I would not have spent so much on Christmas gifts for my family thanks for the heads up they knew what they were doing long before Tuesday and this is how they wanted to handle it that's fine, they will open another business here in Elsinore and it will fail just like the last one did that's what they deserve!!!

@ winkwink !! -- I can now understand why a business owner might not have wanted to share such information to its staff...just as you have displayed with your "social media" etiquette, you likely would have sabotaged a planned/noticed closing...which likely would have resulted in Sizzler closing its doors early anyways. Either way, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be happy. I'm truly sorry for your loss. I've had this happen to me before, so perhaps I wasn't there with you, but I know first hand, including having to go onto unemployment for a brief stint just to try and support my family...ironically during this same holiday season years ago. I climbed out of it with hard work, good things to say about others, as that is what I do, and I don't blame my employer, nor would I have ever shamed myself or my employer by such selfish chatter. People like the Myers don't clock in & out, they work fulltime...all the time. I know, because that's what most business owners must do today just to survive...forget about a profit. Free...you must know that nothing is free! I'm further saddened to see you resort to material things as a barometer of happiness. Just as you have accused me, perhaps you ought to reflect on things a bit more to understand that what you see isn't always reality. Kindly check your perception at the door and engage in thoughtful & meaningful debate. My condolences to your & your family...I pray God richly blesses you & provides for your every need. He is faithful!

You don't know me I had many regular guests that I loved and would never do anything to sabotage them what could i possibly do to sabotage them or the business?? I wanted some sort of notice to plan for this, is that so much to ask after many years of service to them ??????? I will be fine from this as others I work with will not I have my salesperson license and have for a while now I worked there because I loved the guests and my co workers and I don't care what anyone says we deserved a notice" sabotage" please give me a break that's how the Myers think and you apparently!! They were to worried about what we would do to give us a notice and that's sad!!!!

The store knew it was closing its doors. The signs were there. The sudden cleaning& trashing of years of collecting holiday decorations. We always went above& beyond to make our store the best in any holiday decorating, but 2 weeks ago they throw it all out &only allow us to put up holiday stockings&a tree. No lights, no decor, no festivities- all in the trash. That was a sign that they already knew. They had enough of the store to gut out closing night that they didn't want to worry about all the extra work it was going to take to take all the decor down. 2 weeks ago they knew! As a manager of a private co I too understand that special precautions need to be taken when closing a store. You tell an employee too soon, & yes, who would come for their remaining shifts? Understood. But promises being made of helping w/ transfers&new locations is a load of PR mumbo to take an already horrible situation&just sugar coating it. Every owner of a business who has to make hard decision of shutting down or taking jobs has a responsibility of taking care of the family they established especially in the LE store. I never received transfer papers. I never received the names or numbers of local stores that I may have options to work at. I was handed my termination paper& a pamphlet for the unemployment office.

We as a family at that store dedicated our lives enjoying the atmosphere together w/ customers who we loved as our own flesh&blood. That's how long we ALL worked there. U can't find that in any other store in my opinion. To have that many years of experience in ONE store, we all deserved a bit more Respect in allowing us to make adjustments.

I remember what a big deal was made when Sizzler opened. Shortly thereafter, when Railroad Canyon Elementary opened in 1989, Sizzler's management went out of its way to support the school's PTSA with numerous coupons and certificates. That was so kind. I just Sizzler returns so that the community can eat there again. hope Sizzler returns.

Gary and Sally Myers? You two have got to be the most hypocritical people in Temecula...You "claim" you help the community..really? What about this community of 30 people that gave you so much? And just like that, you close your doors and give NOTHING to these people? I sure hope your Church does not hear about this, how will it make you look? Can't have the people know how money hungry and greedy you really are...Karma is a bitch folks...
barrelled December 22, 2012 at 04:44 PM
To you "respect"...I am going to assume by your writing you may be one of the Myers, or somehow related to them, or maybe even a local business owner without a heart like them..how dare you say "yet never reinvest themselves into adding any value." Who do you think you are saying something so heartless? "Into adding any value"???? Are you for real you asshole??? Let me guess, you probably say you are a Christian too, right? Maybe attend the same church as them? Was this the best way to handle this? HELL NO!!! Sally sat there stuffing her face, passing out coupons to customers and not even a thank you or a fucking gift card for these people??? The Myers did NOTHING to helpTHIS community..this was a family that worked there, there were people that have been there since they opened and you have the nerve to say something like that??? The 30 employees that were let go, without a notice, and as Sally's hipocritical ass sat there stuffing her face and not even giving a rats ass about these people is horrific..and right before Christmas??? They knew months ago that this was going to happen...and chose to not say a thing. So, instead of being upfront with your employees and letting them know what was going on, it's better this way? Are you fucking kidding me right now? And you, "respect" support this? What were they afraid of, crappy service on the last day to the customers? I think not..it's all about MONEY to these greedy people...Happy Holidays...
barrelled December 22, 2012 at 04:56 PM
To Respect: You are a selfish, and uncaring form of human life. You were not there, you are not in their shoes, and the social media is the only forum for the little people to be heard these days. I know what it is to have my own business and employee's and when we closed, we did not do our staff like this...we did not live on a hill in a huge home and and "act" like good citizens...the Myers have no heart for those that made them money...that's what it's all about, isn't it Respect? Money...greed...it all goes hand in hand..."forget about profit"...really?? Tax write offs are huge for fat cat's as the Myers...my senses tell me you may be one of the heartless Myers...and I hope when you are sitting there at your Christmas dinner, you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside and know that you did a good thing. I really hope that karma rears it's head to you and the Myers... One more thing, Respect, I would like to make a suggestion to you, you should take your happy ass off of here because you don't care about these 30 people...your comments are only upsetting these people...has your clan not done enough harmto them?

If I have learned anything from reading the Conservatives on The Patch, businesses would never do anything to harm their employees. Therefore, the ex-employees posting here must be lying!
winkwink !! December 23, 2012 at 09:00 PM
Lying for what who would gain from that and why? I don't wish what happened to us on anyone not even you Carl P. !!!!!! It was the most selfish heartless thing you would do to a family that has been there for you for 25 years its hard to believe even i am still in shock

All businesses have one goal in mind.....make money for the stakeholders! We were all taught that in our business classes. That's capitalism! You can thank our educational system for that. If you are an employee anywhere at any time you are just a number. If you are an employee the only way to escape that persecution is go to the other side.....start your own business! There and only there is where you will learn what it's like to be a business owner. Walk a mile in their shoes and your story will change real quick! Until you've done that your comments have no merit.
Alinsocal December 24, 2012 at 05:11 PM
The Myers and the local Sizzler here probably pumped over a billion dollars into the Lake Elsinore economy over the past 25 years and therefore doing more for the community than you ever will. There will not be any Karma being passed out and I'm sure their church friends can see past weak comments personally attacking them.
Alinsocal December 24, 2012 at 05:19 PM
Rubi......my wife was terminated from a restaurant two years ago in December right before Christmas.....another door opened up....it always does. Take some time to reflect on the good things you did for them...stay positive....better things are around the corner.

Alinsocal 8:54 am on Monday, December 24, 2012 "All businesses have one goal in mind.....make money for the stakeholders!" . . Even non-profits?
Alinsocal December 24, 2012 at 05:44 PM
Would have been worse if these people were laid off three or four weeks ago.....then Christmas would have really sucked! Making a decision to lay off employees is never easy. They actually made the best decision they could have made under the circumstances. Nobody will be burning in hell, and nobody is hiding behind their bible....they had to make a business decision!
Carl Petersen III December 24, 2012 at 05:44 PM
Alinsocal 8:54 am on Monday, December 24, 2012 "If you are an employee anywhere at any time you are just a number." . . I disagree. There are businesses who know how to treat their employees well. Looking out for your employees and making a profit are not mutually exclusive. From what I have read here, the owners knew what they were doing was wrong or they would not have lied in the press release. I understand that it would be a bad idea to give the employees advance notice of what was about to happen, but they could have at least offered them severance pay based on the amount of time that they had worked for the company or followed through with the promise they made in the press to transfer them to other restaurants without loosing their seniority.
Alinsocal December 24, 2012 at 05:52 PM
Legal help wouldn't get far if the employees were not under contract and were an "at -will-employee" California law gives the business the right to terminate anyone for any reason. Unfortunate but true.
Alinsocal December 24, 2012 at 05:58 PM
Respect.......I agree with you and your observation! Until these people own their own business they will never understand.

My husband and I have enjoyed the Lake Elsinore Sizzler for many many years. We noticed before they closed that a lot of our favorite staff was missing? So we stopped going. Today we were invited to the Murrieta Sizzler. We waited 45 mins to be seated, we should have been told the wait time before we purchased our food! The "new" look of these BMW owned franchises is pretty, yet extremely disfunctional! So disappointed!!! We will never support another business owned by this greedy corporation!!!!!
