Wolfee Donuts Brings Extreme Flavor To Lake Elsinore

Wolfee now sells an average of 1,700 donuts each day and the shop has become a favorite for late-night customers who come in for dessert.

Maple bars with bacon, coconut cream bars, Almond Joy bars, and fruit burritos are just some of the unique treats Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore offers its customers.

And people love them.

“I used to go to another shop that I thought was good until I tried Wolfee,” said regular patron Donald Ramirez. "This is a wonderful success story and they have not skimped on anything -- that is why the donuts are so wonderful.”

Joe and Karen Marin opened the shop in October 2009, and admittedly knew little about the business. They hired a baker to help them.

The first day of business saw 450 donuts sold, and they stayed open as long as people wanted them to.

“We thought we’ll just go until the people were gone,” Karen said recalling that first day.

The second day open, the Marins sold 560 donuts; and on the third day, 685 were sold. People would knock on the door at night after closing, so they decided to open 24 hours a day, Karen explained.

As for the crazy flavors and what to call them, Joe said he left that up to Wolfee clientele.

“The customers have taught me the names of the donuts,” he said.

The Marins employ three bakers and two counter employees, and they have three delivery people who make early morning runs to local businesses and organizations.

In addition to donuts and bars, the shop features muffins, cinnamon buns, and cream puffs in three flavors. Wolfee Donuts also offers coffees, teas, blended drinks and smoothies.

The Marins have worked hard to get to this point, putting in 17-hour days the first year.

“We had to hire a cleaning person and gardener at home, as we just had no time to do anything there,” Karen said. “Our Christmas tree stayed up for months. We struggled and learned a lot of lessons along the way. Wolfee’s has a force of its own and we are along for the ride -- and what a wonderful ride it has been.”
