$17 Million In Grants Available Through County For Children's Health Issues

The deadline for applications is no later than 1:30 p.m. Jan. 26.

The County of Riverside, through its Children & Families Commission, is making $17 million in grant money available to agencies working with children's health initiatives.

The Commission, otherwise known as First 5 Riverside, plans to provide the $17 million over the next four fiscal years through grants benefitting children ages prenatal to 5 years.

Grants will be awarded in six health areas:

1. asthma management

2. breastfeeding support

3. health access, utilization and retention

4. home visiting

5. oral health

6. nutrition and physical activity

Representatives of interested agencies are encouraged, but not required, to attend an informational meeting regarding First 5 Riverside's latest health requests for proposals and qualifications. The meeting is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Regional Access Project Foundation, 75105 Merle Drive, Ste. 100, in Palm Desert.
