Bees Attack And Kill Another Local Pet

A horse is the latest victim.

Just weeks after Wildomar resident Kim Bammes’ dog Reggie died after being attacked by a swarm of bees, Riverside County Animal Services reports that a horse succumbed to stings this afternoon.

The horse was discovered after a call came into Animal Services shortly after 1 p.m. today from an emergency-room nurse at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center in Riverside.

A man in the ER was being treated for bee stings and had asked a nurse to call Animal Services to find out if his horse was OK.

Riverside County Animal Services Lt. Chris Mayer and Sgt. Jason Sanders responded to a property in Riverside’s Arlanza neighborhood.

Unfortunately, the man’s horse had already died from the swarm.

The bees came from two separate hives, according to the Animal Services officials. One of the hives was located in a pepper tree in the center of a ranch-style property in the 5000 block of Mitchell Avenue.

The man was getting ready to spray his horse with a fly repellent, which may have triggered the swarm, Sanders said.

It was uncertain how many times the horse or the man was stung, Sanders said.

“I’m imagining (the man) was pretty lucky to get out of there alive,” Sanders said.
