Blue Angels Share Experiences With Local Schoolchildren

"I love sharing stories with the kids and to see their faces light up when we talk about the Blue Angels," said U.S. Navy Blue Angels Public Affairs Officer Lt. Katie Kelley.

Students from Lake Elsinore along with their classmates at St. James Catholic School in Perris, received a special "angelic" visit Friday when U.S. Navy Blue Angels Public Affairs Officer Lt. Katie Kelley dropped in on the kids to talk about the Navy, the Blue Angels, the importance of school and this weekend's Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show.

"I love sharing stories with the kids and to see their faces light up when we talk about the Blue Angels," Kelley said. "The importance of these visits can't be underestimated."

During the hour-long presentation, Kelley, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, showed a short video, discussed her experiences in the Navy including educational opportunities and travel, the importance of education and she took about 30 questions from the kids.

"Bringing special visitors to our school demonstrates our commitment to life-long learning," commented St. James principal Camille Lara.  "Even if just one student's imagination is ignited and helps them look into the possibilities of what the future holds, we have accomplished our mission."

Kelley and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels are in San Diego for the air show at MCAS Miramar through the weekend.
