UPDATED: Deputy Shoots Suspected Burglar

The sheriff's deputy was confronted by the suspect, and the shooting occurred, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Updated June 2: A sheriff's sergeant said the shooting was not fatal, as was reported earlier by City News Service.

A suspected burglar was shot early Saturday in Menifee during a confrontation with a sheriff's deputy, a sergeant said.

Dispatchers received a call at 3:26 a.m. about a burglary-in-progress and sent a deputy to a home in the 23000 block of Norma Drive, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Lisa McConnell said.

The sheriff's deputy was confronted by the suspect, and the shooting occurred, McConnell said. The suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries, the sergeant said.

No other information about the shooting was made available, and neither the suspect nor the sheriff's deputy were immediately named. --City News Service
