GOP Looking Ahead To 2012 With Local Boots On The Ground

"The Democrats have a dangerous Socialist agenda that is really Communism," said Mid Empire Republican Assembly member Ted Wegener.

The Mid Empire Republican Assembly is working to get the 2012 GOP vote out with two local upcoming events that promise plenty of conservative thinking.

The group, which actively endorses and supports conservative issues and candidates, will be screening the film Agenda: Grinding Down America (2010) at the Sun City Library in Menifee on June 30 at 5 p.m.

Directed and written by Curtis Bowers, the documentary-style film looks at “the people and groups that have successfully targeted America’s morality and freedom in their effort to grind America down,” according to the film’s promoters.

Agenda was a winner of the 2010 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival $101,000 Best of Festival Jubilee Award.

The film is not posted on the library calendar, and the library is not promoting the screening, but library staff has confirmed the showing.

Sun City resident Ted Wegener is a member of the Mid Empire Republican Assembly and is the founding member of Conservative Activists, a local group that also promotes GOP ideals.

He said the film provides a closer look at “this country’s Communist path.”

“The Democrats have a dangerous Socialist agenda that is really Communism,” he said.

Wegener said Mid Empire Republican Assembly will also be on hand for the June 25 City of Menifee-sponsored Independence Day celebration at Wheatfield Park. As the festivities get underway, 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., the group will be working to register voters.

“We want to get everyone registered, but we want them to vote Republican,” he said. “In California, there are more registered Democrats than Republicans, and we need to change that.”

Southwest Riverside is a Republican stronghold, but groups like Organizing for America (OFA), which is backed by the Democratic National Committee, are also working to change mindsets.

to strategize for the campaign ahead.

The meeting was headed by Rolf vom Dorp, a retired economist who is now an OFA community organizer for the 49th Congressional District.

Wegener said he's standing by his core Republican values.

In addition to voter registration, he said Conservative Activists is working to address illegal immigration by convincing local cities and counties to adopt E-Verify.

E-Verify is an online system that draws on the resources of the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security to determine whether someone can legally work in the United States.

In December, Wildomar City Council adopted an ordinance that requires business owners to use the E-Verify system to confirm a prospective employee’s legal status. Lake Elsinore adopted a similar ordinance last year.

In the case of both cities, enforcement of the program relies on public complaints regarding businesses that may not be in compliance.

Wegener said both the Mid Empire Republican Assembly and the Conservative Activists welcome new members and non-members to their meetings and events.
