Governor Honors Lake Elsinore Sergeant Killed In Combat

Governor Jerry Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff today over the Capitol in memory of Sgt. Noah M. Korte.

Sgt. Noah M. Korte, 29, of Lake Elsinore, , is being honored at the State Capitol, it was announced today.

Governor Jerry Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff today over the Capitol in memory of Sgt. Korte, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

“The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time,” the release stated.

Sgt. Korte died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

Also killed in the attack were Spc. Kurt W. Kern, 24, of McAllen, Texas, and Pfc. Justin M. Whitmire, 20, of Easley, S.C.

The soldiers were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt. Korte’s family will also receive a letter of condolence from the governor, according to the press release.
