Lake Elsinore's Suhr Guitar Rocks Riverside County Leaders

Suhr, otherwise known as J.S. Technologies, has been presented with the 2013 County of Riverside Export Award.

Turns out, Riverside County Supervisor Kevin Jeffries and staffers at the County Office of Foreign Trade like the notes Suhr Guitar is hitting these days.

Suhr, otherwise known as J.S. Technologies, has been presented with the 2013 County of Riverside Export Award. The honor was given to the Lake Elsinore-based guitar maker Thursday by Jeffries, who represents the city in the First District.

"Suhr guitars are considered by many to be the finest in the world by the music industry and their loyal customers. Almost half of the guitars, amplifiers, and foot pedals produced by J.S. Technologies in their Lake Elsinore plant are sold around the world," said Tom Freeman, commissioner of the County Office of Foreign Trade.

Suhr has been a client of the trade office for more than 15 months, Freeman said in his released statement.

In addition to Jeffries, Lake Elsinore City Manager Grant Yates and Mayor Bob Magee were on hand at the Suhr plant Thursday to present the award.

All those in attendance were also able to tour the plant, meet employees, and see how the handmade instruments are produced, Freeman added. Guests were also treated to a Suhr guitar demo by famed guitarist Andy Wood.

Thursday's event was a preview to a big summit in Lake Elsinore slated for June 6, when, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., the city will host the World Trade and International Summit at The Diamond Club.

The no-cost event open to the public includes an impressive list of guest speakers including keynote Leocadia Zak, director of the U.S. Trade & Development Agency.

Other speakers scheduled to appear include Philippines Ambassador Hellen De La Vega; Lee Fraser, executive director of Finance & Budgeting for Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Marketing and president of the Canada California Business Council; Abraham Kim, vice president of the Korea Economic Institute; David Josephson, regional director of U.S. Export Import Bank; and Subrina Chow, director of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Singapore.

“This is like no other,” Freeman said. “We’re really excited about this conference.”

In addition to the guest speakers, Freeman said state representatives and local elected officials are expected to attend. The event is also open to local business owners looking for a leg up on foreign trade.
