New Online Tool Lets Residents, Business Owners Check Property Valuations

Beginning July 15, Riverside County property owners will be able to check online for changes in the county's valuation of their home or business.

The Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved posting all future value notices on the Assessor-Clerk-Recorder's website.

"This will make getting the information quicker,'' board Chairman Bob Buster said.

There are more than 800,000 commercial, residential and agricultural properties countywide, according to assessor's spokeswoman Michelle Martinez.

She said the assessor's staff has been working for the last three months to upload valuation information into the county's Internet database.

Homes and businesses are assessed annually to determine whether they've increased or declined in value, with a commensurate rise or fall in property taxes. A property owner can file an appeal against a higher assessment, with all appeals due in the county clerk's office between July 1 and Sept. 1.

According to the Assessor-Clerk-Recorder's Office, people who don't have Internet access can still call and request a hard copy of their assessed valuation. The information will also continue to be mailed out with property tax invoices in the fall.

To see the data online, a person will need to log into the assessor's Property Information Center at http://pic.asrclkrec.com/Default.aspx. To find a valuation for a specific location, the party will need to enter the parcel number or the address. No names or other identifying information will be shown, only the dollar amount. --City News Service
