Santa Helps VFW Spread Holiday Cheer

The Holiday Basket program provides food and gifts for area families.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1508 in Wildomar held its 11th annual Holiday Basket giveaway program on Sunday for families in need, a tradition that started back in 2002, said Tim Underdown, Men’s Auxiliary president.

Ladies Auxiliary President Isabella Schieffer—who started the program with Holiday Basket Chairman Doug Crouse—led the program, which started Saturday with more than a dozen volunteers wrapping presents for each of the 26 families.

The day came complete with Santa, an elf and some reindeer helping out across the four stations. Families were greeted by the Holiday Basket committee and then started by picking up gifts that were bought especially for every individual child by Schieffer.

Then it was over to take a family picture with Santa, pick up a Scentsy Buddy donated by Tamby Gordon, then over to pick up their eight bags of groceries that came with a turkey, ham, eggs, milk and enough other groceries to last one to two weeks.

It was a great day for all involved that that was filled with happiness and even a few tears.
