Gun Ownership - Change My Mind

Gun Control - you are either for it or against it. This is a little dose of reality for you...

I often try to understand all sides of a situation, just so I know whatever decision I make is thoroughly thought out. Whether it be political beliefs, religious beliefs, life choices, etc. Gun control is one of them.

There doesn’t really seem to be an in-between with gun rights. You are either for it or against it. I would like to hear valid arguments opposing the second amendment. I have yet to hear anything that really made me stop and go ‘Hmm, you have a point there’. The opposition seems to always point to mass shootings as the reason behind their belief. You cannot use that as an example and I will tell you why below. Just as people who oppose gun ownership do not like to hear ‘Guns don’t kill people, people kill people’ line, it is the exact same thing by opposition using the mass shootings as an example.

Let’s play pretend, and we will visit reality during as well, just to check in.

Let’s say guns are outlawed. No longer legal to have. In your world, will mass shootings all of a sudden stop? Will there be no gun violence at all? How will making guns illegal to own stop the violence?

Now, let’s pop back into reality for a second, just to see how things are.

Welcome back!! Are drugs legal in reality? They are not are they. Are they still around everywhere we look? Do people still get their hands on them? Do people abuse drugs still in reality? I see.

Can you tell me again how making guns illegal, just like drugs are, would stop the violence? How people would not be able to get any guns?

Should we outlaw spoons and forks too? They tend to make people fat some get high blood pressure and could die. Might as well right? Cars? They tend to kill people.

Sandy Hook, Sikh Temple in Wisconsin, Aurora all of those would have still happened. Making guns illegal doesn’t make them disappear off the face of the earth. They will still be manufactured for police, military, etc. Guns confiscated off the streets now end up back on the streets due to corruption or being stolen. It always comes down to the owner/user of the gun. Always. It really isn’t the gun.

Making gun ownership illegal will only weaken the good and strengthen the bad. They will be armed, we will not. They will have control, we will not. I am a gun owner. I am responsible with my guns, as it is my civic duty to be. Obviously, not all are. Start there.
