Tailgaters Be Damned On Ortega Highway

How good is your insurance coverage? Wanna see? BACK OFF!

What a perfect day to write this blog. It was raining, and what did I see in my rear view mirror while commuting the Ortega Highway? A white car hood and a driver who has zero clue on what a safe distance is between vehicles.

Really people?

Unfortunately, this is almost a daily occurrence for me. Quite frankly I don't think I will ever understand it. What is the point of riding someone's tail over the Ortega? The 74 is notorious for coming to instant stops. If you rear-end me, you are at fault. It will do nothing but cost you a fortune in the long run.

So what gives?

I can't count how many times someone has been on me, so close that I can't even see their headlights. I have pulled over a few times because I was just over it and didn't feel like stressing through my whole entire trip. Just a little over a week ago, there were three cars lined up on the side at the Candy Store, two of which rear-ended the one in front of them.

Hmmm, I wonder why that happened?

Is it too much to ask to keep about a two-car distance from the car in front of you? It only saves you, the person in front of you, and anyone else around that YOU are jeopardizing. Why take the risk of totaling your car or anyone elses -- or God forbid, even take a life while you are at it?

I understand that heavy traffic is annoying. I'm annoyed at times but I'm still not riding the person in front of me. I understand slower drivers need to pull over, but the fact is many don't. What are you going to do about it? You don't have Big Foot, your car doesn't fly, there is nothing you can do but ride it like the rest of us are. We are all in the same line, I cannot go any faster than the car in front of me as I do not have Big Foot and, I just checked to make sure this morning, my car does not fly.

Let's save some lives people. Keep about a two-car distance or so between you and the car in front of you. Also, keep the car in front of you in your sights at all times just in case around that next corner we all have to slam on our brakes. That distance will save you from a very large bill, possible lawsuit, and could quite possibly save your life or mine.
