What You Want? A Chamber Mixer and Talent Show, Combined!

As a member of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce (CLCOC), six degrees of separation make manifest, establishing the theory behind networking.  I’m acquainted with the chamber president, Mike Irvin, who’s also a member of Menifee Toastmasters 2002786 (TM).

I know I’ve mentioned the illustrious, public speaking and leadership learning lab, many times. Though we don’t espouse direct sales during our public speaking soirees, much business transpires after the meetings, I’m sure.

I suppose I wouldn’t mention much about TM if I weren’t moderately involved as a member.  Since 2007, I’ve derived many more benefits than I’ve conveyed, primarily because TM is an international organization. I dive right in when I can. Participation counts toward obtaining the TM credentials in speaking and leadership, thus, I’ve become a highly trained speaker.

What’s left? Well, I’m on my way to becoming an Accredited Speaker wherein I keep track of public presentations outside of TM, submitting the records to TM and to the National Speakers’ Association.  I assimilate and aspire to others' laudable traits, garnering feedback for my burgeoning repertoire.

How so? I’m glad you asked. Next Wednesday, July 31, the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce is hosting a talent show at Pepe’s Restaurant.  The mixer begins at 5:30 p.m. and the family-friendly, talent show begins at 6:30 p.m. During the auditions last week, lots of young kids sang and danced. I believe there’s a martial arts demonstration. I know Hallmark’s character, Maxine, is sharing her adventures, too.  Kudos to Paul Chenette who’s running logistics with the sound system, accomodating Karaoke.

In an earlier adventure this year, I won a couple of prepared speech contests –that’s ONE of my three talents. I can’t sing or dance, but in another era, I won quite a few lip-synching contests before Milli-Vanilli and Beyonce gave the timing and body language feat a bad rap. Sooooo, what you want?  Baby, I got it. What you need? Well, you know I got it.  All I’m askin’ is for a little respect…just a little bit, in the chain, chain, chain…chain of fools.

I’m going to practice speech DELIVERY and GESTURES to the tunes of Aretha Franklin – Pretha Pranklin, in my case, because it’s an opportunity to refine my timing. Aretha is the Queen of Soul. She’s my all-time favorite artist.

“It’s just a fun community event. There’s no Simon Cowell, no Hollywood agents, only a platform and an audience who appreciate the talent and the courage to participate,” said Mike Irvin. “Everyone’s invited. The mixers are always a networking blast,” he said.

In the mean time, I ain’t gonna do you wrong, while you’re gone…
