Honoring the 67th Assembly District Woman of the Year and Volunteerism

Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez Honors 67th Assembly District Woman of the Year

On Wednesday my office announced Lesa Sobek, a resident of Menifee was named the Woman of the Year for the 67th Assembly District.

Lesa has been a tremendous community servant in Menifee for over 20 years, serving her PTA, her Church and local youth organizations. Additionally, Mrs. Sobek has led several food drives for the Menifee Community Cupboard, served as Volunteer Coordinator for the 2004 Sun City Concern 10K Run-5K Walk, Menifee Race for Humanity 5K/10K and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for senior residents in the area.

Mrs. Sobek is the embodiment of the volunteer spirit. Volunteers like her keep our communities vibrant and worth living in throughout California.

The other day I recently found out about a young girl who saved $9.12 to give to her local animal shelter. When most kids are worried about playing video games and watching T.V., she was working to make a difference for something she cares about.

Stories like these serve as inspiration to others, including myself. We can all work on our volunteer spirit just a little bit. If we all worked on it just a tiny bit, we can make a world of difference in people’s lives.

When you’re hanging out on your couch this weekend watching March Madness, think about those in need that could use just a little of your time. You could make an enormously positive impact in someone’s life.
