Having a combined 33 years of service in the United States Navy my husband, Nico, and I understand firsthand these sacrifices. From the stress of the job to the extended absences from family and loved ones our veterans and active service members truly know the price of freedom.
In addition to adjusting to the mental and physical challenges of military duty, service members have to also help their families adjust to a different way of life. For example, even though they are not on the front lines of battle, military spouses must put on a brave face, as they try to maintain some sense of normalcy. Families also have to make financial adjustments to cope with the challenges of living on a military salary.
This is why I am proud the Governor signed my Assembly Bill 526 to expand the financial protections granted under the California Military Families Financial Relief Act. Assembly Bill 526 allows all military reservists and National Guard members who are called to active duty to defer payments without interest for up to 180 days on mortgage, credit card, loans and tax bills.

Assembly Bill 526 will provide our military reservists, National Guard members, and their families with peace of mind regarding their finances while they fight for our country. Because of their willingness to serve, our servicemen and women deserve every opportunity to be able to serve with distinction and not worry about the burdens they may leave at home.
On this Veterans Day, let us give thanks to our veterans and all service members for sacrificing so much to keep our nation safe.
