BLOG: Lake Elsinore Woman Calling On Locals To Run For Boston

Runners and sponsors are wanted to help aid victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

We have all seen the images of those injured and killed by the Boston Marathon bombings. Being so far from the city I call home, I felt helpless and lost.

I grew up watching the Boston Marathon. It is a wonderful tradition in the city. Though it will take a long time for Boston, not to mention the families of the victims and those injured, to recover.

Bostonians and people across the nation have taken to social media to show their pride and love of the city. "Boston Strong" social media is where I came across a friend who was sponsoring a runner in a group called Strides in Solidarity. Being a bit of a runner myself, I was curious and looked into the group. It is affiliated with The ONE FUND BOSTON, a fundraiser set up by Governor Deval Patrick. These runners are running a mile for every dollar donated in honor of those injured and killed. The goal is for each runner to run 200.2 miles by July 4, 2013. The 200.2 miles signify the 180 injured plus a full 26.2 miles for those who lost their lives.

I, along with my 5-year-old son have joined this group of runners. My son will be doing 26.2 miles by July 4 in memory of the 8-year-old boy, Martin Richard, who lost his life in the bombing.

We are very excited we can do something to help. Thus far I have run 6.5 miles since April 22, 2013. We are looking for people to sponsor our runs. For every dollar donated we must run a mile toward our goal. The more runners we have, the more money will go to the victims. If interested in becoming a runner, or sponsoring a runner, please contact me at njscbullock@yahoo.com.
