Riverside Dr Accident

Another accident on Riverside Dr between Collier and Gunnerson. Small car versus a 18 wheeler truck. When is someone going to do something to provide more safe streets for us? If this was a four lane highway could this accident have been prevented? Not to mention what it does to anyone that is driving in this area. The Police Officer was calmly sitting in her car at Gunnerson & Riverside Dr, she was not out directing traffic or helping. This accident caused traffic snarls all over town because this is a main artery from Central to four corners. Not to mention that everyone getting off the Ortega and heading up Riverside Dr to this area had no idea what they were going to come up on. I think a petiton to the County, City and CalTrans is in order, there is no reason that any of us should have to be subjected to unsafe road conditions to drive on.  I hope all involved are OK but by the looks of it I would say probably not.

Lake St was nice and scenic before the city brought in tract homes. By the way, why does the city still have those ten year old concrete barriers beyond Mountain St? It poses a safety hazard and should be removed. Lake St was planned to be widened when the tract homes were built, but the good old city used the money for purposes unknown...

Truthful, finally someone speaking out that doesn't have blinders on to what is NOT happening in our town to provide public safety for the growth that those in charge have allowed to happen all for the sake of tax revenue that they never spend to do improvements of any kind to the town. Where the hell does the money go that they get to repair our streets???????

that road is kinda dangerous going up or down that little hill .. other then that the rest is pretty safe, maybe just need another stop sign or something. too many accidents, starting to look like a cementary with the crosses along the highway.

I just came here to find out what happened. If you also want to know I found this link http://blog.pe.com/breaking-news/2014/01/31/lake-elsinore-riverside-drive-wreck-hospitalizes-family-disables-big-rig/
Tim Heins January 31, 2014 at 01:01 PM
The road is fine, it is the idiots that drive like maniacs down the road that are the problem. I drive it 4 times a day 5 days a week. I do think that the police could have done a better job (or a job period) directing traffic. Sitting in your police car talking on a cell phone does NOTHING to help the situation. Lazy does not cut it with this tax payer.
jenny jones January 31, 2014 at 01:23 PM
Sadly this accident had nothing to do with rain roads or a big rig driver being a jerk. This was some one going way to fast on a turn that clearly says 35 mph. Not one person would have had such bad injuries if they were wearing their seat belts. Seriously no one had a seat belt so they flew around in the car. A baby was seriously injured. Not because the road wasn't 4 lanes. If it was more people would have been injured. The big rig driver also tried to prevent this but the car just lost control. Why is it any time there is an accident people complain about the road. Are you complaining because you could have drive past it if it was wider hwy? You could have seen the wreckage and talked about how sad it looked but still made it home before diner. Does anybody think about how flooded the road would get there if it was widened? I mean it is a road through a swamp land. What about in the mountain. Widen that and what blow up more of the mountain to make room? Then you can complain about how your ride to work was once so pretty. Why do people always have something to say with out even knowing what really happened.

REALITY!! if there were only 2,000 population in elsinore, as there was when elsinore was actually a nice place to live, these problems wouldn't exist
Michael D. Miller January 31, 2014 at 02:10 PM
Driving any vehicle on any road on any day begins with using Common Sense. In lake elsinore , Common Sense is Not very Common.
BLUESGUITAR777 January 31, 2014 at 02:15 PM
We understand that Elsinore has grown in population. Fine. Understood. We get it... AGAIN, the issue is **NOT** the roads. Building larger roads, installing lights and stop signs/lights or whatever will **NOT** stop the accidents. Accidents are people errors - **NOT** road/sign/street/light errors. Period. End of discussion. Fin. The End.

The issue is the ROADS! Overcrowded, unsafe thoroughfares contribute to many accidents and this city should hold some responsibility! Stop signs, traffic lights and wider roads are needed when a citys population doubles in twenty years! Right?
BLUESGUITAR777 January 31, 2014 at 03:00 PM
Truthful - Roads are inanimate objects. They do not move, they do not think. They do not speed or break laws or tailgate, etc. Please explain to me in detail HOW they cause accidents, please?...
Truthful January 31, 2014 at 03:04 PM
As my dear Grandmother said, "You cant argue with fools!"
BLUESGUITAR777 January 31, 2014 at 03:13 PM
Sounds like she was having an argument with you...
Truthful January 31, 2014 at 03:21 PM
No, only dumbasses who don't know the definition of "accident"!
BLUESGUITAR777 January 31, 2014 at 03:35 PM
There is no such thing as an accident you half-wit. It is almost always the fault of someone. Either one or both parties are not paying attention, distracted, speeding, tail-gating, passing illegally or whatever the case. A road, which is traveled frequently and just sits there does not and can not contribute to an accident. It's just not possible... and given you never answered my previous question, it's quite clear and obvious you cannot refute my point. Now be a good loser and sit down and shut up.
BLUESGUITAR777 January 31, 2014 at 03:43 PM
I find it sad and quite telling how people seemingly cannot take responsibility for their actions, how they drive, what they do, etc. They always have to blame something or someone. I guess we can thank the liberals and their ilk for this mentality. "it's the road's fault!!"............... pathetic.

BLUESGUITAR777 January 31, 2014 at 03:49 PM
My thoughts exactly.... lol
Antonio January 31, 2014 at 04:13 PM
I notice on many acccidents the law enforcement does not appear to put much effort or concern with increasing traffic flow. In the old days, the police/CHP would be out directing traffic.
Antonio January 31, 2014 at 04:15 PM
That stretch of road is Hiway 74 and is completely controlled by CAL-TRANS not the City.
Ken January 31, 2014 at 04:23 PM
Bluesguitar 777, You are so right. It's not the roads fault it's the phone compamies fault. They need to stop providing cell phone service on Riverside drive. But only between collier and Gunnerson. That way inthat congested area people can keep their mind on what they are doing rather than talking to someone they would like to be doing. I also like your sticker idea. But of just displaying it in their auto they should be required to wear a clown suit and display it on their suit saying I'm a clown (from Orange county or Los Angeles or San diego where ever they crawled out of ) and I drive like I'm retarded so beware and it's really not my fault because I'am a abortion that survived.
Joy January 31, 2014 at 04:24 PM
Perhaps an additional east/west route through the northern end of town would help? I don't know that widening would be the solution. Like someone mentioned, in this case it would have simply led to additional injuries. I also like the small-town feel, but am torn between wanting Lake Elsinore to feel small, but have suburban-city convenience...
jim woodward January 31, 2014 at 05:24 PM
poor truthful has obviously been hitting that crack pipe way too much. delusions such as his is precisely the reason there are wrecks. bluesguitar: the simpe reality is that everyone with an iq above forty, and the ability to use it, comprehends the simple FACt that there is no such thing as an accident. they are called wrecks, since the definition of accident at least implies that no one is at fault, and there is NEVER a time when two cars collide that someone is not at fault
jim woodward January 31, 2014 at 05:27 PM
as i said, elsinore was a very nice place to live fifty years ago. i'd walk across the lake bed every weekend to get over to town. i had the good sense to leave the hole when they decided to put a costco a mile away from me. thankfully, i now live in civilization, where the population of the COUNTY is 53,000
VVV February 01, 2014 at 08:15 PM
I just want to point out that there are no potholes in that area. Also, someone was obviously on the wrong side of the double yellow line. If you have trouble driving, DON'T DRIVE!
One Voice February 03, 2014 at 05:44 PM
On Friday afternoon without any accidents in the area Collier was backed up to Riverside Drive with people trying to get on Hwy 74.15Fwy at 3PM, me and my girlfriends stood there and watched this go on for over 45 mins, people running the red lights, blocking the intersection. All of these cars came from the four corners area, I am assuming this would be school traffic??? The owners of the antique store in this location said it is like this everyday. No, we don't need anymore roads for people, really!
susie-q February 13, 2014 at 05:11 PM
We have to live in reality. We live in a town that will continue to grow. It is never going to be how it was. Most likely we will not catch up with the population growth as far as the roads are concerned. Do you know any town that has?? We all need to drive defensively and considerately. Learn to drive slower and let someone in your lane of traffic once in a while. Leave a little earlier for your destination so that you will not be in a rush.
Antonio February 13, 2014 at 05:20 PM
I understand where your coming from, but to me reality is standing up and exercising our democratic principles. You seem resigned to adjusting to the "powers that be." Not me. We suffer from over development and resulting traffic congestion because we don't understand who we vote for elected leaders, if we vote at all. Do you know why real estate agents salivate over getting elected to city councils? It's because the greatest power a city council exercises is land use, deciding what and where it gets built. The RE agents on city councils ensure that over development and shifting costs from business to average joe taxpayer will continue.
