1 Arrest Made During Lake Elsinore DUI Checkpoint

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

During the DUI/driver’s license checkpoint scheduled in Lake Elsinore March 16, one arrest was made and 35 unlicensed/suspended drivers were cited, according to a sheriff’s sergeant.

The checkpoint operated by the Lake Elsinore Police Department took place at SR 74 and the El Toro cutoff Saturday evening.

According to a report from Sgt. Peter Giannakakos, 22-year-old Canyon Lake resident Sean McDonald was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Of the 1,254 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 69 were diverted to secondary screening, the sergeant reported. Nine people were given field sobriety tests, and 12 vehicles were impounded, according to Giannakakos.
