1 Person Dead In Grand Avenue Fire

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, a fire official reported.

One person was killed and another injured in a late-night fire at the Lakeland Village/Wildomar line that destroyed a motor home, a mobile home and a shed.

The blaze in the 19900 block of Grand Avenue near Corydon was reported at 10:42 p.m., according to a report from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

The gender and identity of the deceased was not immediately available and the survivor's injuries were reported as minor, Hendrickson said. No firefighters were reported injured.

Twenty-three firefighters and seven engines were called to the scene and the blaze was knocked down in approximately 30 minutes, Hendrickson reported. An ambulance and deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station also responded to the incident.

Grand Avenue was closed in both directions at Corydon. Fire officials were expected to remain on scene until approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday, Hendrickson reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the spokeswoman added.

Witnesses said they weren't sure if the structures were occupied at the time of the fire.

Shawn Salley, 43, said he ran to the scene to make sure nobody was trapped, but the fire quickly spread.

"Stuff started blowing up," he said.

The damage caused by the blaze is estimated to be $40,000, Hendrickson said.
