1 Person Dead In Grand Avenue Fire

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, a fire official reported.

One person was killed and another injured in a late-night fire at the Lakeland Village/Wildomar line that destroyed a motor home, a mobile home and a shed.

The blaze in the 19900 block of Grand Avenue near Corydon was reported at 10:42 p.m., according to a report from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

The gender and identity of the deceased was not immediately available and the survivor's injuries were reported as minor, Hendrickson said. No firefighters were reported injured.

Twenty-three firefighters and seven engines were called to the scene and the blaze was knocked down in approximately 30 minutes, Hendrickson reported. An ambulance and deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station also responded to the incident.

Grand Avenue was closed in both directions at Corydon. Fire officials were expected to remain on scene until approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday, Hendrickson reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the spokeswoman added.

Witnesses said they weren't sure if the structures were occupied at the time of the fire.

Shawn Salley, 43, said he ran to the scene to make sure nobody was trapped, but the fire quickly spread.

"Stuff started blowing up," he said.

The damage caused by the blaze is estimated to be $40,000, Hendrickson said.

NOW the lot will be cleaned.....

Seeing that someone has died, its in good taste to reserve those kind of statements.
Lauren Vento February 19, 2013 at 03:54 PM
My compassion to those who lost a family member or friend last night. And my regrets for the negative and cruel comments on here.
robin February 19, 2013 at 04:09 PM

drug addicts are people. let's not lose our humanity because we are upset that something didn't go the way we see it should have. someone lost their life. may they rest in peace and may this be a lesson we all learn and grow from. peace be with all those effected.
Melodie . February 19, 2013 at 05:06 PM
The truth lies somewhere between the goody-two-shoes and the very negative, cynical people who have left comments on this fire....I simply say "You reap what you sow."
Mark February 19, 2013 at 05:19 PM
Sad to hear about the death. Sending my love to the family. On another note, terri and Alec, lets try and show some respect as this is someone's loved one. Terri, who are you to say that "drugs were involved?" and Alec, so if you were killed in a fire, I'm sure your family would be happy to know that "NOW the lot will be cleaned....."
neline February 19, 2013 at 07:14 PM

Gosh I wish all of these ignorant and stupid posters on this site either learn to spell properly or invest in a dictionary. A lot have a sharp tongue but a dull brain.

Another tragic death in LE, there have been so many these past couple of weeks. Condolences to the family of the victim of this fire.
Barbara Lester-brown February 20, 2013 at 03:37 AM
I agree with you one voice. To many deaths for our beautiful town. I send my condolances to all those family and loved ones
I am no one February 20, 2013 at 03:46 AM
WOW, some of you people are just amazing, not in a good way. My first thought on the matter, after oh my goodness that poor person, was do we have a fire bug going around? first Annies, then someone's residence. Maybe those of you who cannot find it in your heart to be humane can at least use your busybodyness to keep watch in your residential area. You might help prevent some of the crime you constantly complain about. BTW, nobody is holding a gun to your head to make you live here, feel free to move away.

Death creates jobs. We need more jobs for people around here!
CALIIRONWORKER February 20, 2013 at 05:53 AM
His name was Tim. I met with his grieving sisters today. It's now a homicide investigation. So to the couple insensitive IDIOTS that posted comments, I'd be glad to meet with any of you and you and talk about this. The owner of the property lives in La Cresta in a 1.4 million dollar home with no power, water, gas or phone.
anonymous February 20, 2013 at 07:07 AM
Its a sad situation, why are they saying it's a homicide investigation now ? Why would anyone live that way ?
Erin Varner February 20, 2013 at 07:51 AM
This is very sad to hear. Sad that a man lost his life in this accident. Prayers go out to his family. I don't know about anyone else but I am grateful that none of the surrounding neighbors lost their homes or lives as a result of this fire.
Steve Smith February 20, 2013 at 04:36 PM
Man, some of you idiots are too much! You don't have anything better to do then run your mouth about something or somebody before you even know the story. Besides, do you think remarks like that could be reason enough to call us the things they do or see us the way they do? Think before you talk, its better for all!
Fisher Lady February 21, 2013 at 07:41 PM
Steve...my mother constantly told us kids to think before we talk as we were growing up. It's a good policy to live by...but at times escapes us.
Tera Elliott February 23, 2013 at 05:17 PM
OMG! I am apalled and disgusted at some of your comments. How ruthless and heartless some of you people are! Someone just lost their life in this fire and yet you ignorant people have the nerve to get on here and criticize, judge, stereotype and, make false accusations? Based on what? Do any of you that are running your mouth personally know the man thats life was taken by this fire? Do you know anything about him or his life at all? I doubt it! The mans name was Tim and he was also a friend of mine whom I had just spoke with earlier that day. How dare you people pass judgement on him! And who are you to judge anyone especially being that you didn't even know him? He was a son, a brother and a husband. Do you know what that means? It means that he has family that are greiving their loss and they do not need to read some of the negative and insensitive crap that some heartless people wrote on here!!! What if the shoe were on the other foot, how would you feel? Try to show a little respect!!!!! And if you cant do that then just keep your rude comments to yourselves! Please...Im also the next door neighbor so if there is anything in my comment that any of you dont like, you're more then welcome to come see me!! .May you rest in peace Tim
Jill E. Pepper February 24, 2013 at 08:11 PM
Because just before the fire you could hear a (no pun intended) extremely heated argument going on. Then the fire breaks out, and the girlfriend who says she was sleeping manages to get out along with two other males but the boyfriend doesn't?? Hmmm It's just very suspicious and why would girlfriend and guy return the next morning to remove things from the property when it's still yellow taped? I'm looking forward to the investigation being completed and hear what the findings are.
Martha L. Bridges February 25, 2013 at 02:09 PM
Tera, what you say is so very true, and I thank you for having the gumption to say it. Unfortunately, these types of apalling remarks appear all too often in the Patch's comment section.
jeff nasse February 26, 2013 at 02:25 AM

Colleen "Nasse" Kelley February 27, 2013 at 02:25 PM
So, Ken, do you think that since a person may not spell correct that makes them less of a person? Ever think that people may think this comment comes from someone with a sharp tongue also!
Tera Elliott February 28, 2013 at 04:40 AM
Yes Jeff apparently they do not want the whole truth. I tried to post again under someones lame comment stating the truth as to why TIm & Billie were really there and it got posted for about 3 minutes and then it was taken off. I guess they'd rather have people fabricating the story with there false assumptions. So wrong and way out of line!
