UPDATED: 1 Person Reported Dead in Cajalco Road Crash

The single-vehicle wreck was reported at 9:39 p.m. in the 20100 block of Cajalco Road, according to Mark Annas, a fire department spokesman, who reported that the vehicle was found down an embankment and on fire.

UPDATE 10:39 a.m. Oct. 15:

Coroner's officials have confirmed that a man died Monday night on Cajalco Road in Mead Valley when his vehicle left the roadway, rolled several times and caught fire.

The victim was described as a 32-year-old man from Perris, although his name was being withheld pending positive identification as of Tuesday morning.

The crash happened on westbound Cajalco Road, about 800 feet west of Barton Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Department.

A person died Monday night in a single-vehicle crash on Cajalco Road in Mead Valley, CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department reported.

The wreck was reported at 9:39 p.m. in the 20100 block of Cajalco Road, according to Mark Annas, a fire department spokesman.

"(The) first arriving engine reported one vehicle eight feet down an embankment fully involved with fire," Annas wrote in a report.

One person died at the scene, according to Annas.

As of publication time, it was not clear if more than one person had been riding in the vehicle, or what type of automobile it was.

Annas said California Highway Patrol Inland Division is handling the investigation.

According to CHP's Web page, the accident happened on Cajalco near Barton Street, where westbound lanes were to remain closed for an unknown duration.
