15 Traffic Tickets Handed Out During Motorcycle Safety Operation

A total of 29 traffic enforcement stops were made during Saturday's operation in Menifee.

A "Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation" conducted Jan. 18 by the Menifee Police Department led to 15 citations being handed out to drivers, it was announced today.  

Extra officers were on duty patrolling areas "frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur," the department reported. Officers were looking for violations made by motorists and riders alike.

A total of 29 traffic enforcement stops were made during Saturday's operation, according to the department. Of the 15 citations issued, here is the breakdown:
  • 2 for unsafe speed
  • 2 for red light violations
  • 1 for unsafe turn
  • 6 for unapproved D.O.T. helmets
  • 1 for no helmet
  • 1 for modified lighting
  • 1 for off road vehicle on roadway
  • 1 arrest warrant service
One motorcycle was towed as a result of the operation.

"The message to all drivers and motorcyclists is: share in the responsibility and do your part by safely 'sharing the road,'" the department stated in a news release. "Riders can get training through the California Motorcyclist Safety Program. Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
