The Lakeside High School student's killing on May 25 occurred around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Monroe Street and Garfield Avenue, a neighborhood known as the Presidentials by local residents.

Police were called to the scene on reports of an assault, Lt. Joe Borja of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said at the time of the killing.

“Upon the officers' arrival they discovered two victims at the location,” Borja said.

The teen, later identified by Patch as Henderson, was found on the ground with serious injuries, the other person, an adult male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Borja said.

Both were transported to an area hospital, but the boy died from his injuries, the lieutenant explained.

According to a Riverside County Coroner's Office report, the boy's injuries occurred at 11:34 p.m. on May 26; he was pronounced dead at 12:06 a.m. the following day.
