UPDATE: 2 Dead Following Domestic Disturbance

"The investigation revealed the male suspect shot and killed the female, and then shot and killed himself," the sergeant is reporting.

UPDATE AT 3:14 p.m.: A 68-year-old man fatally shot his girlfriend and then himself during a domestic altercation in Menifee, authorities said today.

Debra Vandyke, 49, of Menifee died in the attack, which was reported around 10 p.m. Sunday at a house in the 33000 block of Merritt Road, near Scott Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The man's identity was not immediately released.

Deputies were called to the location to investigate a domestic squabble, and while en route received word that shots had been fired. When they reached the house, deputies found the man and woman dead in the front yard.

"The investigation revealed the male suspect shot and killed the woman and then shot and killed himself," according to a sheriff's statement.

ORIGINAL POST: A call Sunday regarding a domestic disturbance with shots fired in Menifee turned deadly, police are reporting.

According to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Buompensiero, when deputies responded to the call shortly after 10 p.m. in the 33000 block of Merritt Road, they found a male and female dead in the front yard of a residence.
 
"Investigators from the Perris Station and the Central Homicide Unit responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the male suspect shot and killed the female, and then shot and killed himself.  The identity of both deceased subjects is pending next of kin notification," the sergeant reported.

It is not immediately clear if the two were related and whether they lived at the home together. (More details to follow.)
