8-Year-Old Girl Struck By Van In Lake Elsinore

The accident was reported about 12:50 p.m. on Spring Street, near Graham Avenue, according to sheriff's officials.

An 8-year-old girl was struck and injured Sunday in Lake Elsinore but was expected to fully recover.

Patch was first to arrive on scene at the crash, which was reported about 12:50 p.m. on Spring Street, near the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce building on West Graham Avenue.

According to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Ken Chaffin, the girl had just stepped out of her family's van and was clipped by another van.

"She's going to be fine," the sergeant told Patch. The girl was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center, with a possible broken leg, he said.

"She's awake, coherent, talking. she seems to be doing well."

Westbound traffic was stopped on Spring Street -- at Graham Avenue -- for a short time, the sergeant said.

My heart goes out to this girl and her family. People, please pay attention to your children. It only takes one second for them to be tragically taken. Thank you patch for the coverage.

Hope the driver of the second van isn't too traumatized. I wonder....did this 8 year old step out into the second vans path? It doesn't say that anyone was cited or arrested. ??? Any way, its still a good reminder to instruct and watch your kids. }~)
