UPDATED: Deadly 91 Freeway Crash Slows Morning Commute

UPDATED SEPT. 5, 2013: A motorcyclist fatally injured in a crash on a major freeway in Corona was identified today.
Riverside resident Mario Romero, 37, died around 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corona Regional Medical Center, roughly 40 minutes after the crash was reported on the westbound Riverside (91) Freeway east of the 71 Freeway, according to Riverside County coroner's and sheriff's officials.
Romero was riding his Harley Davidson "at a high rate of speed," tried to avoid crashing into a vehicle ahead of him as traffic slowed and was thrown from the motorcycle, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Monks said.

Westbound lanes were temporarily blocked, according to the CHP and Caltrans. --City News Service

The accident was reported at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday on the westbound 91, east of the 71 Freeway. The motorcyclist was given emergency aid at the scene and was transported to a hospital, CHP Officer Travis Monks said.
He didn't know the extent of the unidentified patient's injuries or how many other vehicles were involved, but a CHP dispatcher reported that the motorcyclist was struck by a van and given CPR.
Westbound lanes were temporarily blocked, according to the CHP and Caltrans. --City News Service
