Firefighters are investigating Monday the cause of a weekend fire that scorched an estimated six acres near Lakeland Village.
The so-called Gillette Fire was reported at 4:49 p.m. Sunday in the area of Akley and Gillette streets above Lakeland Village, according to Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.
A total of 140 firefighters, backed by two water-dropping helicopters and two air tankers, contained the fire by 8:50 p.m., she said.
"Forward spread has been stopped due to aggressive suppression efforts by air and ground resouces," Hagemann said.
No one was injured, no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered, Hagemann said.
Firefighters from San Bernardino and San Diego counties and the Cleveland National Forest assisted in the battling the blaze, she said.
