Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Near McVicker Canyon Park

Luis Garcia, 25, of Lake Elsinore sustained moderate injuries when he drove into a block wall at the intersection of McVicker Canyon Park Road and Gateway Drive shortly before 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

An alleged drunk driver crashed his truck near McVicker Canyon Park in Lake Elsinore early Tuesday morning and tried unsuccessfully to flee the scene, according to Sgt. Ken Chaffin of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department/.

Luis Garcia, 25, of Lake Elsinore sustained moderate injuries when he drove into a block wall at the intersection of McVicker Canyon Park Road and Gateway Drive shortly before 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, the sergeant wrote in his report.

According to a preliminary investigation, Garcia was driving north on McVicker Canyon Park Road at a high rate of speed, lost control of his truck and collided with the block wall, the sergeant said.

Witnesses in the area reported seeing Garcia leave the scene on foot, despite his injuries. When deputies arrived they spotted Garcia, who identified himself to the officers. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, the sergeant said.

“Alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision,” Sgt. Chaffin said.
