iPhone Sale Arranged Online Ends With Armed Robbery

Police are searching for a suspect that pulled a gun on a man selling iPhones on the Internet.

What was supposed to be a meeting between a man selling iPhones and a potential client in an industrial area Friday night turned into an armed robbery, according to Temecula police.

Police said the man selling iPhones arranged sales through a popular web site, and met the suspect around 10 p.m. in the 42000 block of Winchester Road, an industrial area west of Interstate 15 with several closed businesses.

When the man arrived at the location with the iPhones, the suspect walked up to his vehicle, grabbed one of the phones and pulled out a handgun, according to Sgt. Geoff Green. The suspect ordered the man to turn over another iPhone and his wallet, but the victim drove off and called police.

Officers arrived within minutes and searched the area for the suspect—including setting up a perimeter and conducting several vehicle stops—but he was able to get away. The suspect was described as a thin Hispanic male, approximately 20 years old, around 6 feet tall, 165 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to call the Riverside Sheriff’s Department’s Temecula station at (951) 696-3000, or dispatch at (951) 776-1099.

@ Galactic Cannibal; Hispanics are 3.3 times more likely to be in prison than whites; they are 4.2 times more likely to be in prison for murder, and 5.8 times more likely to be in prison for felony drug crimes.Young Hispanics are 19 times more likely than young whites (and slightly more likely than young blacks) to be in youth gangs. Doesn't sound like JJ Mclure is so bigoted if he is just saying a truth. Unless you maintain that facts are of themselves, bigoted.

@Bret - How do prison and crime statistics back up the statement "I thought they come to pick lettuce"? And how do you go from a description of one guy involved in a possible robbery to generalizations about a group of people whose common characteristic is that they have some historical connection to Spain? Or was there some other statement made by JJ Mclure that is no longer here?

@ Ponce; They back up the insinuation made by JJ Mclure and blasted by Cannibal as being bigoted. Really, it isn't that difficult is it to connect the dots? And incarceration and arrest statistics are important. They show who is what to whom. If, by his tongue in cheek insinuation, Mclure is saying he thought they were here to only pick lettuce, but the lead story is about a crime, I think you can figure it out. And, the statistics support him. As for the "Spain" versus "Hispanic"... just using the PC terminology. What would you have me call them?
